"Fads come and go, but rules remain the same." Here are the rules we abide by. These are the formative blocks that make up pure design. Design is a language that we at AFID would like to share with our clients. We invite you to take-in our definitions.

Academic:
Academic art is done by the rules. Decorating your home according to an academic style creates a house devoid of feeling and character. At AFID, we follow what we have learned from great artists, such as Picasso and Miro, and use them as inspiration to make your home yours!
Balance:
Be it symmetrical or asymmetrical, balance is distribution throughout a space. At AFID, we pay attention to detail; therefore, we balance weights of objects, colors, forms, textures, attention, importance, and movement throughout a space
Color:
Technically, our interpretation of color is how the eye perceives a wavelength of light as it is reflected off a surface. The same color that makes one person feel comfortable and warm makes another uneasy and cold. This is the strength of color, at once powerful and personal.
Dominance:
Dominance is the necessity that certain elements in a space demand more attention than do others. In order for a room to offer its occupants security, comfort, and aesthetic appeal, there must be one or more focal pieces in the room.
Form:
Form is the physical orientation of the pieces which fill a space. Form is shape and balance. Form follows function. At AFID, form is flow, unity, art, comfort, and movement. It is the magic that makes a space a place!
Harmony:
Repetition creates harmony. At AFID, a room is in harmony when like or similar elements create a unified space.
Negative Areas & Positive Shapes:
Open space that is not occupied by positive shapes. At AFID we know, just as there need to be dominant and supportive pieces in any area, so too there must be positive and negative space.
Proportion:
Proportion refers to a piece in relation to itself as well as in relation to the overall space. It is how the piece fits.
Repetition:
Repetition is the use of the same visual element multiple times in a space. Here at AFID, we know this is one way to give a space a sense of continuity, flow, harmony, and rhythm.
Rhythm:
Repetition of like or similar forms gives a space rhythm. We at AFID know a space has rhythm if features successfully make the eye of the occupant flow around the room. The eye does not simply float around the space. It has one or more carefully-planned destinations.
Scale:
Scale refers to the overall size of a space. Some spaces are built on a large scale. Others are built on a small scale. The size and shape of a space usually define the scale of the furnishings within the space.
Shape:
A shape is form. It is different in color, material, texture from its surroundings. To us t AFID, this means each chair, each vase, each flower we place in a room is there for a reason beyond its function. It is there for its shape.
Space:
Space is a three-dimensional area. At AFID, we like to think of space as a beach, a vast expansion of beautiful sand where we put our blanket. We make a place out of a space, just as we make a home out of a house.
Style:
At AFID, style is the expression of individual taste. What is yours? If you know, please tell us! If you don't know, we will help you find it!
Texture:
Texture is felt.
At AFID, we love this often-overlooked design element. Texture is determined by touch, but often tricked by the eye.
Unity:
Unity exists in a space where the elements work with each other to evoke a sense of completion. At AFID, we know juxtaposition can create dynamic relationships between objects, but the space is successful only if the overall unity overshadows the contrast.
